How to Install an eSIM on iPhone
Complete installation guide for iOS 12.1 and higher
Installing your IbiPoint eSIM on iPhone is quick and straightforward. This guide walks you through every step, from opening your delivery email to enabling data roaming and verifying your connection.
Most customers complete installation in under three minutes. Let’s get started.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- Your iPhone is XS or newer (released 2018 or later)
- Your iPhone runs iOS 12.1 or higher
- You have a stable Wi-Fi connection (keep Wi-Fi ON during installation)
- You have received the IbiPoint eSIM email with your QR code and activation link
Method 1: Quick Installation (Recommended)
This is the fastest and easiest method if you receive the email on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open Email on Your iPhone
Open the IbiPoint eSIM delivery email directly on your iPhone. Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Tap the Installation Button
Tap the button labeled “Install eSIM on iPhone”. Your iPhone will automatically detect the eSIM profile and launch the cellular plan installer.
Step 3: Add Cellular Plan
iOS will show: “Cellular Plan Ready to be Installed”. You’ll see the carrier name: IbiPoint. Tap “Continue” to proceed.
Step 4: Label Your eSIM
Choose a label for easy identification: “Travel”, “IbiPoint”, or “Secondary”. This helps you distinguish it from your primary line. Tap “Continue”.
Step 5: Set Default Line
iOS will ask: “Which line would you like to use for cellular data?”. Select the IbiPoint eSIM (your travel line). This ensures data uses the eSIM while keeping your primary line for calls.
Step 6: Complete Setup
Review your selections and tap “Done”. The eSIM installation is complete. Wait 5-10 seconds for the profile to finish activating.
Installation complete. Now proceed to “Configuring Your eSIM for Data” below.
Method 2: QR Code Installation (Alternative)
If the quick installation doesn’t work, or you prefer manual installation:
Step 1: Access Cellular Settings
Navigate to your iPhone’s cellular settings:
Alternative for older iOS versions:
Step 2: Scan QR Code
- Your camera will open automatically
- Point your iPhone at the QR code in the IbiPoint email
- Make sure the QR code is clearly visible and well-lit
- Hold steady — your iPhone will detect it automatically
- Tap “Continue” when the banner appears
Step 3: Confirm Installation
- Review the cellular plan details
- Tap “Add Cellular Plan”
- Label your eSIM (e.g., “Travel” or “IbiPoint”)
- Select the eSIM as your cellular data line
- Tap “Done”
Method 3: Manual Entry (If QR Code Fails)
If you can’t scan the QR code, you can enter the details manually:
- Go to Settings → Cellular → Add Cellular Plan
- Tap “Enter Details Manually” at the bottom
- Find the activation code in your IbiPoint email (starts with “LPA:”)
- Copy and paste the full activation code
- Tap “Continue” and follow the prompts
Configuring Your eSIM for Data
After installation, you need to configure the eSIM to use mobile data:
Step 1: Verify IbiPoint eSIM is Set for Data
- Go to Settings → Cellular
- Under “Cellular Plans”, you’ll see both your lines listed
- Look for “Cellular Data” — it should show your IbiPoint eSIM
- If it doesn’t, tap “Cellular Data” and select the IbiPoint eSIM

Important: Data roaming must be enabled for your IbiPoint eSIM to work.
- Go to Settings → Cellular
- Tap on your IbiPoint eSIM line
- Find “Data Roaming”
- Toggle it ON (switch turns green)
- If you see a warning, tap “OK” — this is normal for travel eSIMs
Your IbiPoint eSIM is now active and ready to use.
When to Enable Data Roaming
You have two options:
Option A: Enable Before You Travel (Recommended)

- Enable data roaming at your destination
- The eSIM will connect within 1-2 minutes

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my iPhone support eSIM?
All iPhones from iPhone XS (2018) onwards support eSIM. Your device must run iOS 12.1 or higher. Compatible models include: iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, 11 series, 12 series, 13 series, 14 series, 15 series, 16 series, and SE (2020 or newer).
When should I enable data roaming on iPhone?
You can enable data roaming before you travel or after you arrive. Installing the eSIM at home and enabling roaming before departure means you’ll be online immediately when you land. If you prefer, you can wait and enable roaming at your destination — the eSIM will connect within 1-2 minutes.
Why won’t my iPhone scan the eSIM QR code?
If the QR code won’t scan, try increasing screen brightness to maximum, cleaning your camera lens, holding your iPhone steady at arm’s length, ensuring good lighting, or adjusting the distance until the code is in focus. Alternatively, use the one-tap installation link in your email instead of scanning the QR code.
Can I use my regular SIM and eSIM at the same time on iPhone?
Yes! All eSIM-compatible iPhones support dual SIM (physical SIM + eSIM or dual eSIM on iPhone 14+). Your original line stays active for calls and texts via iMessage and FaceTime Audio, while the IbiPoint eSIM handles mobile data. You can switch between them in Settings → Cellular.
What if my iPhone eSIM doesn’t connect after installation?
First, verify that Data Roaming is enabled (Settings → Cellular → IbiPoint eSIM → Data Roaming → ON) and the IbiPoint eSIM is set as your cellular data line. Then try toggling Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds and off again. If still not working, restart your iPhone. These steps resolve most connection issues.
Can I remove and reinstall the eSIM?
No. Once an eSIM is removed from your iPhone, it cannot be reinstalled. The eSIM profile is permanently deleted. If you need to switch devices or accidentally remove the eSIM, contact IbiPoint support for assistance. Always keep the eSIM installed until your travel is complete.
Will the eSIM work with iPhone from China?
Some iPhone models sold in mainland China do not support eSIM functionality due to local regulations. Check your device compatibility before purchasing. iPhones purchased in Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions typically support eSIM normally.
